First of all, let me state that the purpose of this development was always to provide the Arcadia region with an organized an maintained supply of renewable resources, in a relatively close and protected location. If I believed the plot is too large, in the way of high-demand space or too difficult to remove I'd stopped working on it.
So anyhow here's my approximate map of out current 100x100 tile zone between town and the Iron mine:
As labeled, I have a 10x10 fenced-in space more than 60 tiles south of town, thirty off the main road. Five by five of it was leveled off last week for my own use, leaving the remainder for the first part of my intended orchard project.
Yes, I intend to tend and plant useful trees. Basically, I wanted to stick with some less crafting-intensive job to help the town (something like farming, but less dorky, you know?), so I thought having a fenced-in area off the main road but within reasonable carting distance from town or the forges would go well. Something I as one player could focus upon so others could stick to their own projects, but wouldn't fall apart if I oddly dropped by for only an hour within two weeks. Also a designated place for our town's trees to be planted, especially when in the future we might not have so many trees in our area (it may happen, you never know).
So I looked up the basics of sprouts and useful tree and shrub breeds on the wiki and went to graphing.
What I'm starting with right there is only enough for maybe 80 trees, which of course isn't much of a contribution compared to the sheer number of wild groves surrounding the lake. But neither is it an indulgent intrusion on our borders, or at least I hope it isn't considered such.
The next image is my proposal for a much larger scheme, a fruit and lumber operation in a substantial fraction to our current supply (of ambiguous number and less-than-favorable distance if I may say so):
It's a 30x30 set of plots made up of 4 varieties of trees, making 400 trees in total for decent harvesting and continuous chopping & replanting. Bear with me for a moment and keep in mind only 10x10 has been more than simply staked out with fence posts.
-I'm not suggesting *I* will necessarily be solely in charge or owner of all the plots (hence my 5x5 spot with work shed), but rather I'm the one designing the basic setup and now proposing the further communal operation. If anyone else wants to chip in or claim them as rightfully town property, go ahead.
-If Kaz and the whole council violently forbid this to expand any further it's no hassle to me or anyone to pull the extra posts out.
-If anyone thinks a different selection of trees should be put into those plots, I'd certainly prefer to plant the more popular selection.
Well, I think I've described the issue as much as possible at the moment. Until some further discussion goes on here, I'll be leaving the plot as is and simply continue to clear it of dastardly pines. The resulting lumber will go to make more planks and shafts for the planned fences, with additional lumber and wood scraps for the town.
