I was hoping Infinity could drop in and let us know the proper skill level of cooking when people should attempt casseroles and meals respectively?
I have noticed that if you try cooking something beyond your skill, not only does it not feed you well, but your skill does not shift. You should start with low nutrition stews.

This would be helpful. I've gotten up to 11 hot food off crap casseroles, don't know if I should start cooking something harder yet

Just use the wiki and forums. The answer to almost every question is there.

Alright heres what I did to raise cooking. We actually have a lot of ingredients now, so go crazy if you want.
I suggest...
2x berry stews until 5.0 cooking. 2 foraged + 2 botanized plants/berries to make casseroles until 20.0 (or filet's / small fish)
Thats it. You might think there might be a better or what not, but really, theres no need to complicate things. Get 20 bowls, fill them all up with casserole ingredients, dump it into the oven, come back later, take it out, do it again. I know I made like 400 casseroles, which sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. Especially when I was trying to feed everyone back in the old camp and new.
Some suggestions for a casserole 1 Berry (strawberry, blueberry, lingonberry) 1 Herb (thyme, basil, oregano, sassfrasas, parsley) 1 Filet of Meat or Fish 1 Anything of the above
The easiest way to do this, is to open your inventory, open your 20 bowls, and just drag and drop from the ingredient barrels into each separate bowls. Then just dump all 20 into the oven at once.
QL of cooked food is capped by your cooking skill. So no matter what recipe you do, your food will not be filling at all until about 10-15 cooking. I'm not sure when cooking skill rises, im assuming when stuff turns into casseroles or stew.
Do not attempt meals until at least 20.0 skill, it is not worth the ingredients nor the effort.
Meals are made by adding 1 Vegatable (potato, onion, corn) with 1 Meat or fish (not both at the same time!)
The total weight of the ingredients will determine the weight of the meal. Obviously, we want to use heavy meat or fish so we get big meals. We can also add pumpkins or bread to add weight into the meals (roughly 1kg each).
So therefore, we do not want to filet heavy fish/meat into tiny 0.3kg pieces. This is because a frying pan can only hold 10 items. The only limitation to creating meals is the 1 vegetable. You can have 1 vegetable and 9 meats. Without that vegetable, a meal will not form.
I can safely say that unless you add 5 million things into a meal or casserole, you dont need to worry about the difficulty of it.

I payed attention and noted that my cooking skill went up when the ingredients transmuted into casseroles, so that's when it happens.

I'm planning on working on cooking a bit just for basic survival if needed. Thanks for the info, it will really help.
